John W. Scherer prompts "Computer Literacy Day" for California High School

August 29, 2005 was a special day for high school students in Modesto, California, because John W. Scherer of Video Professor donated $270,000 in Video Professor Online™ memberships to Modesto schools for their 2005-2006 school year.

Students in Modesto schools now have free access to Video Professor Online computer lessons at school, and those with high-speed Internet connections can access the lessons from home as well. It's estimated that six thousand students will take advantage of this special opportunity.

The donation came about after Modesto woman Corlene Goff was named the grand prizewinner in Video Professor's July 4th Sweepstakes. Her prize, a 2006 Chrysler® 300C, was purchased from John Gardener of Central Valley Chrysler-Jeep®, who informed John W. Scherer and the Video Professor team of the local school district's goal of promoting computer literacy.

John W. Scherer and his team quickly decided to donate tutorials to the school as part of Video Professor's ongoing computer literacy efforts. School district representatives were especially enthusiastic about Video Professor Online, because it allows their high school students to stream John W. Scherer's award-winning tutorials directly to any computer that has a high-speed Internet connection.

John W. Scherer and the Video Professor team were honored when August 29th was declared "Video Professor Computer Literacy Day" in Modesto. Congressman Dennis Cardoza, along with the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors officially recognized this special day, proclaiming it was "the launching of a program that believes businesses, communities, and organizations can partner together in computer education."

And that's what this special day is about: computer education. The high school students in Modesto now have an additional resource to aid them in learning new computer skills that will be critical to their success as they head off to college and join the workforce.
